It's Here: Week 1 on Wasatch Wildlife Watch

Dear Volunteers,

Thank you so much for joining the Wasatch Wildlife Watch team! This important project is only possible because of you.

We're already to Week 1 on the project, which lasts from May 8-14! This week, you'll be:

  • Finding your first site,

  • setting up your camera, and

  • filling out a data sheet.

If you need a refresher, review the Camera Setup Training Video.

Contact: Please email Austin ASAP if you know you are unable to do any of the rotations. You can also contact him with questions before you go or in the field if your site has service.

Important: Next Steps

If you haven't already, make sure to complete the following as soon as possible:

1. Watch the training recording ASAP if you could not attend live.

2. Fill out the Camera Rotation Schedule. Be sure to add rotation dates to your personal calendar to stay on track throughout the season (if you use a Google calendar, you can add our Wasatch Wildlife Watch Calendar to your device.)

3. Sign the 2022 participant waiver if you haven't yet.

4. Access project resources as needed. Look under "Camera Volunteer Resources" on our website for video tutorials and other information.

5. For Dedicated Hunter information, please email Mary.

Congratulations, Austin!

We're thrilled to announce that project lead Austin Green successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation.

He focused on his work with camera trapping and answering questions about wildlife in the Wasatch, which you are familiar with! Many of you joined over Zoom, but for those who missed it, know that Austin thanked each of you for making this project possible.

We're excited for the future of this project as we continue to grow. We cannot thank you enough for supporting our local wildlife.

Congratulations, Austin!

Training Videos: Cameras, GPS, and Data Sheets

Check out our training videos to make sure you're ready to go in the field. This playlist includes videos on camera setup, data sheets, the Gaia GPS app, and camera settings. You can also watch the full 2022 training video to review anytime.

Image Analysis

Thank you so much for your passion for wildlife in the Wasatch. We're grateful to have you as an official 2022 volunteer.

If you have friends and family who are interested in the project but aren't joining as a camera volunteer, they can still be involved! We need more volunteers on the Image Analysis part of the project to help us get through last year's images.
