Working to Know the Land and Its Peoples

Sageland Collaborative's main office is located on lands known since time immemorial by Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute), Timpanogos, Newe Sogobia (Eastern Shoshone), and Goshute peoples. Our conservation work spans across the Intermountain West, which is home to many tribes.

As we acknowledge the peoples of this place, we actively seek to know, learn from, and collaborate with the land and its many peoples. We recognize the reality of ongoing settler-colonialism on the peoples of this region and the violence and displacement that colonizers have inflicted here. We also celebrate ongoing Indigenous power and leadership in nourishing good relations with local lands, waters, and wildlife.

In our approach to our work, we seek to honor shared knowledges from Indigenous partners and prioritize their work. Recognizing the intertwinement of social and ecological worlds in the Intermountain West, we will always seek to improve our relations and collaborations with First Nations peoples and uplift their strategies and goals. We are grateful to our Indigenous partners for working with us and work to stay humble as we work in service of this place.
