Join Sageland Collaborative and Basin Recreation to remove barbed wire and woven wire fencing in Park City, Utah to increase safe passage for local moose populations!

All ages are welcome, but projects are not suited for children under 10 years old. Volunteers under 18 years old require a guardian’s signature and those under 15 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

When: Saturday, September 26th from 9am-3pm
Where: Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District, Park City, UT (specific meetup details will be shared in a confirmation email following signup).

The project site is approximately a 30 minute drive from the Salt Lake City area. There is cell phone service at the site, a vault toilet at the parking area, but no potable water.

What to expect: This project will consist of removing old barbed wire and woven wire (sheep) fencing that no longer serves a purpose. This is to be done by detaching fencing from wooden posts . No prior experience or training is needed. Our team will do a demonstration before breaking the group into teams to tackle different sections of the fence line. This work will involve hiking off trail over uneven surfaces and through brushy vegetation. There will be some need for use of hand tools (wire cutters).

What we'll provide:

  • A high-quality, fun, and safe volunteer experience

  • Complimentary snacks, and cold beverages

  • Extra safety equipment, sun protection, and a first aid kit

  • Opportunities to learn about wildlife while connecting with restoration practitioners and community members

  • Resume-building skills relevant to natural resources careers

What to bring: Bring work gloves, eye protection, water, sun protection, bug spray.

What to wear: You'll need clothing appropriate for the weather conditions - we work in rain or shine! Volunteers must wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe footwear as a safety measure while working with barbed wire.

Attendees are required to fill out Sageland Collaborative’s Volunteer Liability Form & Waiver in order to participate. Minors must have a guardian sign the waiver on their behalf.
