What will our Heavy Winter Mean for Boreal Toads?

As the snow of this heavy winter begins to melt off, our scientists have been wondering what this might mean for the hibernation and breeding cycles of Utah's boreal toads.

And that's where you come in!

Your dedication to boreal toad conservation allows us to track boreal toads and their habitat across the state. While our guided day surveys are nearly full, there are still spots open for Independent Surveys!

Email us at borealtoad@sagelandcollaborative.org if you are interested in putting together a schedule to support our team in surveying sites in the Uintas, Wasatch, and other locations around the state.  We will share priority sites and training tips for folks who are interested in independent surveys!

Thank you for your dedicated support of this important effort to understand where toads are breeding and where we need to restore important habitats.

Did you know?

Boreal toads produce an odor when stressed that smells like peanut butter!

While humans may find this smell amusing and perhaps alluring, it can act as an irritant to help ward off predators!

Thank You

This work would not be possible without the dedication of our incredible volunteers. Thank you!

If you're unable to join us in the field this year, there are other ways you can support this project! Please consider supporting this and other conservation work through donating, sharing on social media, or passing this email along to your family and friends.

Don't hesitate to email us at borealtoad@sagelandcollaborative.org with any questions.
