Coral Pink Sand Dunes Tiger Beetle Surveys

  • Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park (map)

What: Coral Pink Sand Dunes Tiger Beetle Surveys

When: May 2-8, 9:30am-4:30pm daily

Where: Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park

Utah’s Rare Insect Conservation Program is recruiting volunteers to help survey for tiger beetles at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park!

These surveys contribute important information about the Coral Pink Sand Dunes tiger beetle (Cicindela albissima), which has been identified in Utah’s Wildlife Action Plan as “critically imperiled” due to an incredibly restricted range, limited occurrence, and growing climate and recreation-related threats.

Volunteers can sign up for as many survey days as they like, and are welcome to camp for free at a nearby group site that has been reserved for the survey team.

No experience is needed, just a willingness to learn the survey protocol, work as a team, and respect the wildlife and landscapes you interact with.

Please note that these surveys are not for the faint of heart, as they involve strenuous hiking through sand, sun, and heat for extended periods of time with extreme exposure.

Email Amanda Barth, Utah's Rare Insect Conservation Program Coordinator, at abarth@utah.gov to learn more & sign-up.
