Conservation Through Community

Plus, meet our newest team member, read about shorebird conservation across the hemisphere, get a glimpse into summer as an intern, and more!

Where would we be without the Sageland Community?

This year, our community has come together this year to build over 500 beaver dam analogs, log over 12,000 pollinator observations, and more! Your contributions create tangible outcomes for the species and spaces we love.

Because of you, we're on track to meet our ambitious goals for wildlife and land conservation in 2024. Our work is only possible through the generous support of our volunteers, partners, and donors - thank you.

You're invited to join us at our End of Season Thank You Celebration on Wednesday, October 30th from 5:30pm - 7:30pm at Tracy Aviary's Chase Mill to wrap up another amazing season!

We'll be sharing preliminary outcomes and recognizing our "Of the Year" honorees while enjoying great music, tasty refreshments, and the best company in the West.

p.s. costumes are encouraged and will be judged (in the best way) 🎃 👻 🐝

Meet our new Community Engagement & Outreach Specialist!

We are thrilled to share that Frances Cabrera Ngo has joined the Sageland Collaborative team as our Community Engagement & Outreach Specialist!  In her role, Frances will build partnerships and facilitate outreach opportunities to engage communities across Utah in our science-based conservation work.

Wings and Hands: Cultural Connection Through Shorebirds

International Phalarope Working Group members in February 2024.

Earlier this year, Sageland's Emm Clark and Jaimi Butler traveled to Argentina to participate in the International Phalarope Working Group meeting. There, they worked with colleagues and fellow bird-lovers from across the hemisphere to work towards conservation strategies for the shorebirds that unite us.

Planting for Pollinators - Thank You!

We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who joined us for our planting events this September. With your support, we were able to get over 1,000 plants in the ground to restore pollinator habitat across the state!

These plantings were made possible through the contributions of volunteers, landowners, partners. A huge thank you to the Utah Pollinator Habitat Program for awarding Sageland Collaborative and partners these native pollinator-friendly habitat kits.

These planting events were organized with partners at Utah Department of Agriculture & Food; Utah Division of Water Quality; Utah Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands; Jordan River Commission; Utah Open Lands; Tracy Aviary; Kearns High School Latinos in Action; GreenLatinos; Utah Division of Wildlife Resources; Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter; and the East Canyon Creek Committee. Thank you all!

Visit our project pages below to learn how to get involved. ¡También tenemos materiales del proyecto disponibles en español!

A Summer of Conservation Storytelling

What happens when you equip your summer interns with waterproof film cameras? Magic, science, and a dash of laughter. Get a glimpse through the lens of our Summer 2024 Communications & Outreach Intern, Alhondra Lopez, in her photo blog and interview.
