"Honorary Beaver" Season Starts Now!

Salt Lake City, UT– If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a beaver–wonder no more! Beginning August 29th, Sageland Collaborative kicks off our Riverscape Restoration season in streams and creeks across northern Utah. The public is invited to join our team of volunteers in building beaver dam analogs (BDAs) or planting native wetland seedlings to restore stream and pollinator habitat. The combined efforts of BDAs and plantings are meant to mimic the ecological benefits of beaver dams and improve the health of degraded riverscapes. In addition, these low-tech restoration activities also pave the way for the potential return of beavers! Riverscape Restoration volunteer season runs through the end of October and fosters meaningful connections between the river and our community. Join us to become an “honorary beaver” today!
Expert quotes on significance of the project:
“Our Riverscape Restoration Program envisions a future where deep respect and stewardship of riverscapes is the cultural norm, and the entire community is committed to ongoing stewardship of these vital ecosystems reaching their full potential.”
–Rose Smith, Ph.D., Sageland Collaborative Stream Ecologist
