Rosy-finch Season Is (Finally) Here!
They're here! The first rosy-finches reported by project volunteers this year were seen by Rob and Nancy Tolley. We can't wait to get counting! Photo: Rob Tolley
The Rosy-finch Project season is upon us! We are seeking Feeder Count Volunteers for our winter 2021-2022 season. This is a great opportunity to get outside while helping species that needs your support.
Project Details
The Project: Volunteers across multiple Western states will conduct 20-minute bird feeder counts for rosy-finches once a month throughout the winter and early spring (December – April), with five total surveys during the season. You can do surveys at publicly accessible bird feeder locations or at your own bird feeders in your backyard.
Why the Project Is Important: Rosy-finches are one of the least-studied birds in North America. Thanks to you, our dedicated community scientists, we're working to answer questions about these mysterious alpine birds to support future conservation planning. This is crucial in the face of oncoming threats like climate change.
Training Required: This project is open to anyone and everyone with an interest in birds, community conservation science, or just getting outside! We will hold a live Zoom training session on Tuesday, November 16 from 7pm-8pm MDT. Registration is required. We will also have a recorded online training available for those who are unable to attend the live session.
How to Get Involved: If you're ready to join our team of amazing volunteers this season to support these magnificent birds, register to join our virtual training. You can also visit our website to learn more.
