A Rugged Love Story: Searching for the Rare Rosy-Finch

Plus, Upcoming Projects, a Call for Stories, a New Team Member, and Latinos in Action for Conservation!

Over the summer, scientist Janice Gardner shadowed Tempe Regan into Idaho's alpine to look for mysterious birds in their rugged alpine habitat. Take a look at our recent video with Tracy Aviary to learn more about their mountain conservation work.

This work is part of our Rosy-Finch Project, which is gearing up for another great winter! Whether you're a birding expert or are just getting started, join our community to look for the most mysterious bird on the continent.

Our virtual training for the 2022-2023 season on the project will be November 15 at 7pm Mountain Time. You can learn more and register on our project page.

Thank You,
Stream Restoration Volunteers!

A huge thank you to our stream restoration volunteers and partners! This year, hundreds of volunteers joined forces to build 285 restoration structures in streams across the West. Their work also supported the release of 9 beavers, plantings of hundreds of willows and cottonwoods, and a Bonneville cutthroat trout release.

This work would not be possible without your dedication to the tough work of restoring streams. Thank you so much, and we'll see you next year!

Next Month: Wildlife Image Sorting

You may know that our Wasatch Wildlife Watch volunteers spent their summer hiking, learning, and navigating the woods to manage wildlife cameras across the Wasatch. We're excited to have thousands of photos from these efforts that will be mapped to help streamline conservation efforts.

Now, we need your help sorting through these wildlife photos. This supports us in mapping wildlife behavior and learning how we can best protect important migration paths.

Grab your work team, family, or friend group, and see who can sort the most photos this winter!

Register for our December training below.

Introducing Our New Communications Specialist,
Sierra Hastings!

Sierra poses with a beaver dam analog in one of her favorite places to be in the West: in a stream, creating wildlife habitat.

You may know Sierra as our 2021 Volunteer of the Year and an honorary beaver. Now, we're thrilled to announce she's joining our communications staff as a specialist! Sierra has a passion for conservation, is a skilled photographer, and loves the people and places of the West. Get to know her in our recent blog post.

Action Alert:
Recovering America's Wildlife Act

The US House of Representatives has passed the Recovering America's Wildlife Act (RAWA), which now needs to move to the Senate. This would represent the most significant increase in funding for wildlife conservation in a generation. Will you join our team in supporting this act?

What is it? RAWA provides funding for the conservation and management of wildlife and plant species of greatest conservation need, including endangered or threatened species. This supports agency and nonprofit partnership efforts—like Sageland Collaborative engages in—to conserve and monitor these at-risk species. Our team feels strongly that its success is critical.

How do I get involved? Please join us and contact your senators to urge them to support RAWA and the conservation of the wildlife and plants we all love.

Thank you for your passion for wildlife and lands in the West! Support the future of conservation by donating today.

Visit the project page on our website or connect with us on social media (see links below) to learn more about our conservation work, and please contact us with any questions or suggestions.
