Giving Santa's (Mule) Deer a Happier Holiday

Dear Friend,

The urban population along the Central Wasatch Mountains is predicted to expand 40% over the next 25 years. Already home to over half a million residents, the Wasatch is also one of the most highly recreated public lands in the United States that supports native wildlife habitat along the wild-urban interface.

Where does that leave wildlife? That's where our Wasatch Wildlife Watch project comes in.

Earlier this year, volunteer community scientists on the project placed motion-activated wildlife cameras across the Wasatch to monitor wildlife populations and learn more about their movement corridors.

Thanks to the dedication of donors, volunteers, and partners, we're grateful to say that this season has been the best yet.

The project is designed to understand the current condition of wildlife populations, habitats, and responses to human development in areas where prime wildlife habitat meets growing urban development. This information is crucial for future development planning that will benefit both residents and wildlife.

Will you become a monthly donor to support wildlife in the Wasatch in 2021?

The types of projects this work may support in the future include wildlife over- and underpasses, roads that avoid migration routes, and conservation plans.

CNN’s recent article highlights the success of a wildlife overpass in Parleys canyon. We hope to lay the groundwork for future projects like this as we continue monitoring wildlife patterns in 2021.

Looking to 2021

Thank you to our volunteers and donors who have been central to Wasatch Wildlife Watch in 2020. Without you, this work wouldn't be possible.

If you are in a position to give, will you make a tax-deductible, year-end donation to support more wildlife success stories in 2021?

You allow our conservation projects to continue into a fresh new year. We're grateful for your dedication to Utah's wildlife and lands.

Visit the project page on our website to learn more about our conservation work, and please contact us with any questions.

Thank you so much,

The Wild Utah Project Team
